CONVERSATION | Big Read

Description

The Big Read is an opportunity for us all to immerse ourselves in a book by one of our esteemed keynote speakers. Read the book at your own pace, then join the book club event on the first day of the Conference to discuss it with fellow attendees and gain deeper insights.

How to Participate in the Big Read:

  • Read the Book: Please read Martyr! before the event to enrich our discussion.
  • Join the Conversation: We’ll break into small groups to explore themes and ideas from the book.
  • Engage with the Author: Following group discussions, we’ll gather for a Q&A session with Kaveh Akbar.

Kaveh Akbar, Martyr

This year’s book selection: Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar.

Kaveh Akbar’s 2024 debut novel Martyr! has created such a sensation that reviewers ran out of words. “Nothing short of miraculous,” said the NYTimes. “Martyr! is so much its own creation that comparisons don’t help,” said NPR. Akbar is a multi-award-winning poet, Poetry Editor of The Nation magazine, and Professor at The University of Iowa.
