Description

What’s a “brand,” why do you need it, and how do you build one? What if social media feels icky, self-promotional, or too me-me-me? What should you post, how often, and when? What if you can’t think of anything to say? How do you attract the #Bookstagram community (book influencers) and what about reaching readers?

Whether you’ve been avoiding it, tentatively trying it, feel totally lost, or are actively looking to take your account to the next level, this workshop will empower you with the information and confidence to help you meet your goals. Having a solid grasp of social media and a flock of devoted followers will make you more attractive to agents and publishers, and, ultimately, help you sell more books.

In her corporate career, former PR-executive-turned-author Sara DiVello built and ran PR programs for multi-billion-dollar companies—and now she’s sharing how these hard-won, insider hacks can help writers build a brand and attract followers. Sara is also the founder and host of the Mystery and Thriller Maven Author Series in collaboration with Murder by the Book, one of the oldest and most respected independent, female-owned bookstores in the country. She has hosted 450 interviews with authors ranging from debuts to celebrities.

About Sara DiVello

Sara DiVello is the author of Broadway Butterfly: A Thriller, which was an Entertainment Weekly Most Anticipated Book, CBS New York Book Club Pick, featured in Vanity Fair, and earned starred reviews from Booklist and Library Journal.

In her prior corporate career, she spent 15 years building and running PR and marketing programs for large, international companies. She now speaks and teaches nationally on the topics of branding, social media, and publicity for authors, and is the creator and host of Mystery and Thriller Mavens, a popular author interview series and interactive Facebook group. In that role, she has interviewed over 450 author interviews, ranging from the bestselling and world-renowned to the buzziest debuts.

Sara is the co-chair of the Nantucket Book Festival and the director of social media strategy for the International Thriller Writers association. She also serves on the board of the Friends of the South End Library, a thriving city branch of the Boston Public Library, where she curates the author-speaker series. In her spare time, Sara loves to teach yoga, cook (and eat!), garden, and go for leisurely walks with her husband and their beloved rescue mutt, Peludita.
