Duncan Tonatiuh, leveraging his extensive experience as a seasoned children’s book author, will share personal strategies and tips to help us refine our work and embark on successful careers in children’s book writing.

We’ll dive into the vibrant and inspiring world of children’s book publishing as we learn about the different genres in children’s literature, from picture books and chapter books to middle grade and young adult. We’ll gain essential skills for crafting compelling story arcs and learn how to authentically capture the voice of a child for our characters.

The workshop will also spotlight the rewarding aspects of writing for children and provide insights into the financial opportunities that children’s books can offer.

About Duncan Tonatiuh

Duncan Tonatiuh is an award-winning author-illustrator whose accolades include: the Pura Belpré Medal, the Sibert Medal, the Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award, the Américas Award, the Jane Addams Children’s Book Award, and multiple Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List selections and New York Times Best Illustrated mentions. Duncan is both Mexican and American. He grew up in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and graduated from Parsons School of Design and Eugene Lang College in New York City.
