Catherine Black

Catherine Black is an associate professor, co-founder and chair of the Creative Writing BFA program at OCAD University in Toronto, Canada. Black is an interdisciplinary storyteller whose practice spans prose poetry, lyric nonfiction, and literary fiction.

Her debut novel, BLESSED NOWHERE, was awarded the Guernica Prize for Literary fiction, was optioned for film and has been adapted into a screenplay. She is the author of four other award-nominated books: LESSONS OF CHAOS AND DISASTER (prose poetry); A HARD GOLD THREAD (lyric nonfiction); and BEWILDERNESS (prose poetry).

Black was awarded the Price Award for Leadership in Teaching, and her chapter on Interdisciplinary writing in Art & Design education was anthologized in TEACHING CREATIVE WRITING IN CANADA. Black recently completed a writers’/artists’ residency in Mexico City where she was working on GHOST COUNTRY, an experimental novella about wanderlust and rootedness.
