Juan José Zavala

Juan José Zavala is a novelist and short‑story writer whose work stands out in the horror and noir subgenres. He won the 1st International Horror Novel Contest “Alas de Cuervo” 2022 for his work LA HUERTA (The Garden) and received the prestigious Gabriel García Márquez fellowship. In addition to having been part of multiple cohorts of the Guanajuato Literature Fund, he has published books such as ENTRAÑAS DE TIERRA (Bowels of the Earth) and the anthology Las necesidades de la carne (The Needs of Flesh), and several of his stories have been adapted for audio broadcast on radio networks.

Throughout his career he has appeared in numerous collective anthologies alongside prominent genre authors and has served as a juror for well‑known institutional narrative contests. He also plays an active role in the cultural and editorial management of his region as founder and director of the literary movement Las Letras del Bajío and as a member of the Editorial Committee of Estigma Ediciones.
