Soco Aguilar

Soco Aguilar is a Mexican filmmaker, documentarian, and writer with over 25 years of experience working from San Francisco, Mexico City, and San Miguel de Allende. Her credits include the Ariel Award-winning animated feature La Leyenda de la Nahuala, as well as productions for PBS Frontline, BBC, and Discovery, and films distributed by Universal Pictures. A mentee of acclaimed filmmaker Lourdes Portillo, she was an associate producer on The Devil Never Sleeps, named by The New Yorker as one of the sixty-two films that shaped the art of documentary filmmaking. She is currently directing Sandra Cisneros: Uncensored, a feature documentary about the most banned Latina writer in the United States — an antidote to censorship, erasure, and forgetting. Her recent short Censorship at Texas A&M premiered at PEN San Miguel and was featured by Texas Public Radio. She is also the author of Ama, a feature screenplay in development that she is currently adapting into a novel. She is the mother of three: Pedro Lupe, Pablo, and Amalia.
