Socorro Venegas

Socorro Venegas is a Mexican writer and editor with a distinguished career in novels and short stories. She is the author of novels such as LA NOCHE SERÁ NEGRA Y BLANCA (The Night Will Be Black and White)—winner of the Carlos Fuentes First Novel National Prize (Premio Nacional de Novela Ópera Prima «Carlos Fuentes») and recipient of a special mention in the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Literature Prize—and VESTIDO DE NOVIA (Bridal Dress). In the short‑story genre, she has published titles such as LA MEMORIA DONDE ARDÍA (The Memory Where It Burned), CENIZA ROJA (Red Ash), and TODAS LAS ISLAS (All of the Islands), the latter awarded the Benemérito de América National Short Story Prize. Her fiction has been translated into English and French and appears in various anthologies.

In her editorial and cultural‑management work, she has led projects at Fondo de Cultura Económica and the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, where she promoted the VINDICTAS (Revenge) series, dedicated to recovering the work of Latin American women writers excluded from the literary canon; she is co‑editor of that short‑story anthology. She has also been a writer‑in‑residence in New York, a grantee of prominent Mexican cultural institutions, and an active literary columnist.
