Awarded the Booker Prize for The Inheritance of Loss, Desai has earned international acclaim for fiction that examines the intersections of family, history, culture, and globalization with remarkable insight and humanity.
Born in India and educated in both India and the United States, Desai draws from a life shaped by multiple cultures and perspectives. Her acclaimed debut novel, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, received the Betty Trask Award, while The Inheritance of Loss established her as one of the defining literary voices of her generation.
