This drop-down-deep Poetry Craft class is a gamechanger — the deep craft and revision wisdom in this workshop will transform your relationship to editing your poetry. I’ll share my in-depth list of “Poetry Radars” to re-see, re-hear our work, to take our poems all the way through to that mysterious, gorgeous, heart-soaring place of…Done and ready for publication! These are not a set of rules. We never want “rules” — every “rule” in Poetry is meant to be broken by the one that can do it beautifully — think of e. e. cummings, and so many of the great poets and writers we admire. “Radars” alert us to questions to ask ourselves as we revise. For every poet planning on publishing consistently and successfully, this is a thrilling class, full of Aha! moments, as I share what has taken me writing and revising gazillion poems to learn! In this workshop, I’ll share the nitty-gritty scoop on all those tiny elements that clutter the landscape of poems and show you how to revisit your work on the tender, but skillful, lookout for exactly those moments. This is a process of Revision as a way of re-entering deeply what the poem wants to say. Few writers are ever shown how to work with the place in the poem where we turned away. These places are a GIFT! They invite a journey of depth and associative leaps, and we have only to follow them…in. This is a REVOLUTIONARY, Evolutionary process! I will explain and happily answer questions on the many, various, and usually secret, hard-won and time-tested techniques of Deep Revision. Your take-away is a leaps-and-bounds addition of tools for your toolbox of Poetry Skills, the Ultimate Handout on everything we cover, and the opportunity for in-class practice! Please bring three poems you would like to revise.
