2002 From Memory to Meaning: Crafting Pivotal Moments (ENGLISH)

Every powerful narrative turns on a hinge.In this hands-on craft workshop, writers will focus on identifying and shaping the Pivotal Moment — the scene where identity shifts, understanding deepens, or the direction of a life changes. Many writers know what happened; fewer know how to structure it so that readers feel its impact.Working in notebooks, participants will move through a clear narrative scaffold: Context → Pressure → Break → Insight → Aftermath. Through guided drafting sequences, close examination of short model texts, and structured pair exchanges, writers will learn how to slow down time on the page, heighten emotional stakes, and braid reflection with scene.This is an active, process-oriented session. Expect to write, reflect, and refine. You will not simply discuss craft — you will practice it.Participants will leave with a substantially developed pivotal scene and a clear structural method for shaping memoir, personal essay, and autobiographical fiction.
